Shooting at South Burlington Barnes & Noble Closes Down Streets Nearby
South Burlington Dispatch Center began receiving multiple reports of a man with a firearm and shots fired in the vicinity of Barnes & Noble, located at 102 Dorset Street.
Responding officers were diverted shortly thereafter to Market Street near Dattilio Drive, where callers indicated an injured male lying on the sidewalk.
South Burlington Police and Fire personnel arrived on scene within minutes and provided life-saving care. The victim was transported by ambulance to UVM Medical Center and is currently in stable condition under treatment.
In order to preserve evidence and ensure public safety, the area of Dorset Street and Market Street were temporarily closed while investigators processed the scene and conducted witness interviews.
Preliminary findings indicate this incident stemmed from a prior altercation between two adult males; there is no indication of a random or ongoing threat to the community.
The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a black T-shirt and black baseball cap at the time of the incident.
